Magna Elementary’s Flourishing Garden

The student garden at Magna Elementary is getting a makeover, thanks to Salt Lake County Youth Services, Magna United Communities that Care, and volunteers. Originally started a couple of decades ago, the student garden at Magna Elementary was meant to give each student the opportunity to learn new skills and take pride in the “fruits of their labor”, all while using the garden to relate back to the different subjects that the students were learning. Over the years, the garden beds have become overridden with Sunflowers and other weeds.

This caught the attention of Magna United CTC’s Coalition Member and Salt Lake County Youth Services Prevention Case Manager, Julianna Potter, who has taken the lead to revamp the garden this 2023-2024 school year. Salt Lake County Youth Services staff and groups in the community have been working together to clean up the garden beds. Plans to continue the clean-up will start back up in the Spring.
